Man accused of hitting state police car after doing burnouts on Fort Pitt Bridge surrenders

You might recall seeing video on Channel 11 News of up to 50 vehicles gathering on the Fort Pitt Bridge and doing burnouts back in July.

Only Channel 11 was there when one of the accused men in that incident turned himself in on a warrant Friday. Jason Stotlemeyer quietly ignored our questions as he walked into municipal court.

He’s accused of hitting a state police cruiser on the Fort Pitt Bridge on July 21 when fleeing from responding law enforcement.

Stotlemeyer’s defense attorney, Casey White, spoke on his behalf.

“He learned that there was a warrant out for his arrest over allegations that he was involved in the ride out, wheeling incident or donut incident,” said White.

Only Channel 11 was there the morning police towed the burgundy Grand Cherokee in Bridgeville. Police say they traced it to Stotlemeyer.

“Details are sketchy because I haven’t been able to take a deep dive into the affidavit of probable cause, but when we do, I’m sure Mr. Stotlemeyer will be confident moving forward,” said Casey White.

Graham Liberal, a Florida man who was visiting the Pittsburgh area and allegedly planned the meets for social media content, is also facing a number of charges related to the incident.

When asked if his client is aware of dangers that he could have caused himself or other people, White replied, “Well, I think everybody is aware of those dangers and... We’re not making any admissions...We’re not acknowledging the allegations.”

Back in 2019, Channel 11 covered a story about Stotlemeyer, who was working as a tow truck driver when he was shot during an argument with a rival company. That incident left him paralyzed and in a wheelchair.

“These two are completely separate incidents. Again, he was a victim in that matter a few years back...” said White.

Stotlemyer faces a number of charges, including simple assault, fleeing and harassment.
