Police arrest man accused of sending random pornographic texts

NEW KENSIGNTON, Pa.,None — Pittsburgh police arrested a New Kensington man on Saturday night and charged him in an unusual texting crime.

Officials said Edwin Meharey, 43, sent hundreds of explicit text messages to random people over the last two years.

Channel 11's Dave Bondy asked Meharey about the texts and Meharey said, "I can't recall."

According to the criminal complaint, many of the messages were sent to children.

An example of a text from the criminal complaint: "Can you sneak out of ur house and I will 2, then we will go into the woods and do naughty stuff."

Police said the investigation began after several parents complained about the messages.

A woman who wanted to remain anonymous said her 12-year-old sister started receiving sexually explicit texts about six months ago.

"Pretty much all of them were very nasty," the woman said. "I really want to find this guy and punch him in the face."

The 12-year-old girl was one of at least seven children who received pornographic text messages, officials said.

"I automatically thought to myself to text him back and ask him to stop," the woman said. "He did not stop, so i called the police."

Detectives started sending their own texts to Meharey, and police said he wrote them back.

Police said Saturday night that Meharey didn't deny sending the texts.
