Man accused of stealing safe containing $20K in Rochester

ROCHESTER BORO, Pa.,None — The Rochester Police Department has released a photo of a burglary suspect accused of stealing a safe containing almost $20,000.

According to police, Tariq Taylor is accused of breaking into a house on Oct. 18, 2011, through the back door while the family wasn’t home.

Officials said a witness saw Taylor leave the house with the safe and called police.

“He broke into the home and took the entire safe,” Officer Anthony Zarillo said. “He didn’t try to crack it or open it.”

The victim said the money was going to be used to remodel a bar that he owns in New Brighton.

Zarillo said his department set up a Facebook page hoping to get the suspect’s information out to the community.

According to Zarillo, Taylor has called the police department telling them to take his picture off of Facebook.

“He called in this very morning, and told us to take his picture and information off of the site,” Zarillo said.

Zarillo said Taylor knows police are onto him, but no arrests have been made.
