ROBINSON, Pa. — A Braddock man is facing charges after police said he tried to steal more than $400 worth of meat from the Settlers Ridge Giant Eagle.
According to police, 51-year-old Paul Turner filled a grocery cart with several different kinds of meat and snacks, and left the store without paying.
“This gentleman was caught red-handed and was positively identified,” Robinson Township Police Chief Dale Vietmeier said.
Investigators said Turner was stopped in the parking lot by security.
“Once he went past the cash register, he went outside and that’s when he was detained,” Vietmeier said.
Once in police custody, Vietmeier said Turner confessed to stealing the steaks, spare ribs and other items because he intended to sell it to support his drug habit.
“I think his admission was a request for help,” Vietmeier said.
Turner is due in court on Aug. 6.
