STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — A man accused of crashing into the gates of Penn State's football stadium and stealing the "Paternoville" sign is facing trial on burglary, theft and other charges.
Charles Ciraolo, 22, waived a preliminary hearing Wednesday on charges stemming from the Feb. 28 incident outside Beaver Stadium.
Police said surveillance video shows Ciraolo trying to drive through the gates and knocking over two signs, including the one in the area where students camp out for prime tickets that was named "Paternoville" in honor of longtime coach Joe Paterno.
Authorities said police tracked Ciraolo to his home in Fairport, N.Y. and recovered the sign.
Penn State police estimate the damage to the gates at $23,000.
