Man pleads guilty in DUI crash that killed dad-to-be

PENN HILLS, Pa. — A Penn Hills man accused of killing a dad-to-be while driving drunk two years ago pleaded guilty Wednesday in exchange for a three- to six-year prison sentence.

Bond was revoked for James Hanion, 64, who will be sentenced on May 20.

Police said Hanion had a blood alcohol level that was more than twice the legal limit when he drove the wrong way on Route 28 and crashed into Matthew Eiseman.

Eiseman was 31 at the time and had a baby on the way.

"Waiting for this trial to happen has been a strain on all of us, and to finally get to the place where we're there and hear him plead guilty, it was a relief,” said for Donna Eiseman, Matthew Eiseman’s mother.

Though relieved, Donna Eiseman said no amount of time will ever truly heal the wounds she carries in her heart.

"He never got to see his baby and knowing how much he wanted this baby, it's sad. It's really sad,” she said. "It's really hard to get through each day knowing that you'll never see your son again."
