Man shot in Upper Hill District, teenage passenger arrested for heroin possession

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police are searching for the person who opened fire on a 23-year-old man in the Upper Hill District Monday night.

The shooting happened near the intersection of Ridgeway and Monroe streets around 9:30 p.m.

Officials said that the victim was in a vehicle with two passengers when they were approached by a man with a firearm.

The victim got out of the vehicle at some point and then was shot twice in the torso and thigh, officials said.

The man took himself to UPMC Presbyterian where he is in serious but stable condition.

The 24-year-old and 16-year-old passengers were both unharmed.

The 16-year-old was found to have an unknown amount of heroin on him and was arrested for drug charges and taken to Shuman Juvenile Detention Center, officials said.

Police are investigating the shooting.
