PITTSBURGH — Friday was a day of celebration at Monroeville Mall, as the new multi-million dollar renovations were unveiled for the first time.
Those renovations include new security many people demanded after a shooting inside Macy’s that injured an innocent couple.

"We worked closely with the police department, and we have the security teams very involved. We've also recently, as part of some additional measures, instituted a state of the art camera system,” said Monroeville Mall GM Tom Gerber.
As the always important holiday shopping season approaches, officials hope the community feels safe at the mall.
Monroeville Police Chief Doug Cole believes the shooting was isolated, and steps have been taken to make the mall as safe as possible.
"These are solved quickly. Arrests were made, and people were held accountable for their actions,” Cole said. “I think the mall has always been part of that and continues to be part of that. I certainly think it's a safe place to shop."
The changes come less than a month after Thomas and Mary Singleton, the couple injured in the shooting, filed a lawsuit against the Monroeville Mall and Macy’s, claiming there was a lack of adequate security.
