Morningside church offers Thanksgiving dinner to less fortunate

PITTSBURGH — A local church celebrated Thanksgiving a few days early with people in need in Morningside and surrounding communities.

Morningside Church of God In Christ offered free meals Saturday afternoon to those without a family or the means to cook a large meal.

“Our congregation just has a feeling of love, and we always want to service each other as well as people in our Garfield community,” said Mary Shields.

Having once been homeless, Cathy Bryant wanted to help the less fortunate.

“We decided to do something periodically, maybe every other month, for the community so that they know we’re here and that we do care,” said Bryant.
