Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County asks over 120K customers to conserve water

WESTMORELAND COUNTY — The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County is asking its customers to reduce their water usage to help bring system levels back up.

The water company recognized that recent cold weather created a high demand since people were running water to prevent frozen lines. The system was also experiencing an increased number of leaks because of the deep freeze.

Now that the temperatures are up again, MAWC is asking its customers to reduce their water usage and report any known or suspected leaks.

MAWC says conservation is necessary for three of its four systems: Indian Creek, McKeesport and Sweeney. The company is also requesting usage reductions for customers in consecutive systems in Monroeville, Plum, Parks, Gilpin, Duquesne, Pleasant Valley, Belle Vernon, and Pennsylvania American in Connellsville and Uniontown.

The Ligonier system is not impacted.

MAWS is also calling 121,359 customers to notify them of the water conservation request. Click here to see an interactive map of the impacted communities.

To report a leak, call 724 755-5800 or email help@mawc.org.
