TARENTUM, Pa. — A neglected dog is being cared for after being taken in by an animal hospital at the Pittsburgh Mills.
“It was a good Samaritan who found this pet alongside the road. They were able to help us out initially to get some treatment for her. They were not able to keep her, so they surrendered her to us,” said Dr. Kristen Ostrosky of Banfield Vet Hospital.
Ostrosky said the female mix is about 6 years old and couldn’t walk when brought to them. She said the dog suffers from arthritis and had a bad neck wound that she believes was caused by a collar that was too tight.
“She was just covered in mud and maggots, so she had a rough time,” said Ostrosky.
After cleaning the dog, staff members named the dog Dawn.
Banfield is absorbing medical costs, including pills to ease Dawn’s arthritis.
Dawn is walking again and will be placed in a no-kill animal protection center in New Kensington on Wednesday.
