MONROEVILLE, Pa. — Additional security measures are being taken at the Monroeville Mall after recent violence, officials announced Tuesday.
A state-of-the-art security camera system is being installed to monitor the interior and exterior of the mall. The camera surveillance will be accompanied by increased police patrols and a youth escort policy that has already taken effect.

"Their commitment speaks volumes, and it would be my hope this will resonate not just in Monroeville, but our entire eastern part of Allegheny County,” Monroeville Mayor Greg Erosenko said.
In addition, employees at the mall's Macy's store will go through safety training. Police said a teenager shot three people inside the department store in February.
"We were all very saddened this past February," said Macy's representative Mark Lonadi, who emphasized that the incident does not define shopping in Monroeville.
The mall was also the site of a large brawl last December.
