HARMAR TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Drivers who use the Hulton Bridge between Oakmont and Harmar Township will soon see relief from construction, with the new bridge scheduled to open in late October.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced Thursday that the newly constructed Hulton Bridge will open to traffic on Oct. 20.

With a $65 million price tag, the project includes reconstruction of parts of Freeport and Hulton roads, in addition to the replacement of the old 105-year-old bridge. The new bridge will have four lanes, as opposed to two, and more pedestrian access.
However, drivers still have several weeks of traffic headaches to endure.
Starting Oct. 5, people will need to find alternate routes because of a full closure of the old bridge. During the closure, crews will connect the road to the new bridge.

The good news is that PennDOT estimates that the new bridge will cut commute times by 20-40 percent.
Demolition of the old bridge will occur next year.
