Owner of Donegal restaurant calls recent burglaries ‘well-planned'

DONEGAL, Pa. — The owner of a well-known restaurant in Donegal said recent burglaries at his establishment were calculated crimes and took some planning to pull off.

Over the last eight years, Jeff Fryer’s Out of the Fire Café restaurant has grown in popularity and, until recently, never had a single problem.

Fryer said since last month, the café has been broken into twice.

“He came back four to five weeks later and disconnected video cameras on the building and walked in where we store the food,” he said.

Fryer said after disconnecting the camera equipment, the thief left and came back again.

“He waited two hours, came back, stole the safe and hauled it through the parking lot. He took the safe and all,” he said.

The 250-pound safe contained $6,500 in cash. Fryer said the thief also stole frozen food, including filets, bacon and lamb.

“He seemed to know what he was doing. He knew what he came to do,” Fryer said.

State police said the burglar wore a ski mask and hoodie during the break-ins.

Anyone with information about the recent burglaries is asked to contact police.
