BUTLER COUNTY — The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is asking motorists to avoid traveling between the Butler Valley Interchange and the Cranberry Interchange for parts of the weekend.

The roads will be closed from Exit 79 at the Butler Valley Interchange to Exit 28 of the Cranberry Interchange. Closures will be between mileposts 28 to 31.

According to the PTC, lane restrictions in both directions begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 4. The closure will upgrade to a complete closure Sunday from 12:01 a.m. until 2 a.m. The partial closure will resume after that two-hour period but will be in effect until 9 a.m. on June 5.

During the closure, crews will be installing a six-lane overhead gantry.

The PTC encourages motorists to plan ahead for the closures. Some possible detours available are:

During the two-hour overnight closure, drivers should use the following recommended detour when exiting westbound at Butler Valley Interchange, Exit 39:

  • State Route 8 north (6.6 miles)
  • State Route 228 west (8.7 miles)
  • I-79 South to Exit 77 (0.8 miles)
  • Reenter the Turnpike at the Cranberry Interchange, Exit 28.
  • Follow signs to Ohio and west.

Drivers exiting eastbound at the Cranberry Interchange, Exit 28, should use the following recommended detour:

  • I-79 North to State Route 228 east (8.7 miles)
  • State Route 8 south (6.6 miles)
  • Reenter the Turnpike at the Butler Valley Interchange, Exit 39
  • Follow signs to Harrisburg and east.
