AVALON — PennDOT is doing its part to keep the roads safe by teaming up with a local business for a unique campaign to promote safe driving to and from the big game party.
For many people, it’s tradition.
“Super Bowl, wings, alcohol - everything just goes hand in hand,” said Big Shot Bob’s Avalon owner Matt Cercone.
But if you order from Big Shot Bobs Wings this weekend, they will come with a warning. Don’t drink and drive.
“Have your plan lined up beforehand and you don’t have to worry. Just like having your order ordered earlier this week, so we can have it all lined up,” Cercone said.
The meals will have warning stickers on them spreading the message. It is part of PennDOT’s annual campaign to stop drunk driving.
“When you think Super Bowl, you think wings, but you also think alcohol. So it’s really great to have these partnerships with local businesses that are getting a safety message across,” said Yasmeen Manyisha with PennDOT.
The Pennsylvania DUI Association is also part of the campaign, making sure everyone knows the risks.
“At the legal limit of .08 BAC, that’s when your muscle coordination and your risk tasking increases. Your judgment and all sorts of things that are required for driving are affected,” said Cathy Tress with the PA DUI Association.
The group stresses - if you’re hosting a party, make sure to have plenty of food, water and even mocktails. Do not hesitate to take the keys from someone who is drinking.
“Drunk driving is 100% preventable. There’s absolutely no excuse for it. So we’re asking everyone to plan ahead,” Manyisha said.
Big Shot Bobs wants people to read their message before even taking the first bite.
“If we can sway even one person to take the safer route to the party and from the party, it’s an absolute victory,” Cercone said.
The organizations remind everyone, the decision to avoid drunk driving protects you and everyone else on the roads.
