GIBSONIA, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania Turnpike crews had to use a truck with a magnet on its front bumper to clear hundreds of nails from a western stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Monday.
Turnpike spokesman Tom Fox said at least four motorists reported flat tires after a box of nails fell off a truck in the westbound lanes near mile marker 36. That's in Richland Township, roughly 15 miles north of Pittsburgh.
The nails were reported about 7 a.m. Monday.
The truck's magnet cleared more than 200 nails from the road in less than a half hour.
In November, a tanker truck carrying driveway sealant leaked its load onto a 40-mile stretch of the turnpike, disabling more than 100 vehicles and damaging hundreds more when the gooey muck coated their tires.
