The Food and Drug Administration signed off on a new Pfizer nasal spray for migraines.
The drug is known as Zavegepant and is used for people suffering from acute migraines. It is designed to provide fast relief.
A common problem for people who suffer from migraines is they sometimes experience nausea and vomiting, preventing them from keeping down the many oral medicines designed to help treat them.
In turn, many patients have simply not received any treatment which makes migraines worse. The nasal spray could act as a different solution for people going through that problem.
“Migraines are really a debilitating disorder, specifically if it goes untreated. Attacks can be more frequent, more severe,” said Dr. Dolores Santamaria with Allegheny Health Network.
Allegheny Health Network expects to have the new nasal spray in the Pittsburgh area by July.
