PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired infielder/outfielder Mark Mathias from the Texas Rangers in exchange for a player to be named later. Mathias had been designated for assignment by Texas on Friday.
The 28-year-old Mathias split last season between the Milwaukee Brewers and Texas Rangers. In 30 games between the two clubs, Mathias slashed .247/.319/.506 with three doubles, six home runs, 20 RBIs and three steals.
