WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. — The superintendent of a Washington County school district accused of drinking and driving faced a judge Monday and didn’t dispute the charges against her.
Linda Marcolini, the superintendent of Bethlehem-Center School District , was arrested in December. South Fayette police said she crashed into oncoming traffic and had a blood-alcohol level of twice the legal limit.
Marcolini allegedly told police she had two glasses of wine and was trying to make a phone call when she crashed.
Prosecutors dropped the reckless driving charge against Marcolini Monday, but she still faces a charge for driving under the influence.
Charles Porter, Marcolini’s defense attorney, compared his client’s case to other high-profile cases.
“She is going to be treated much like any other first time offender in a non-violent case, just like Steelers, judges, doctors, lawyers. First time, she should get the ARD program,” said Porter.
The Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) program would require Marcolini to get supervised treatment.
Porter said that Marcolini’s role as superintendent shouldn’t be questioned at all.
“This should have no effect on that. (It’s) not job related, not a moral issue. (She) made a mistake, going to put it behind her and move on with her life,” he said.
