PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh’s Oktoberfest is back, with a 60-foot Ferris Wheel on the Roberto Clemente Bridge, games and something for everyone!
“We just tapped the keg, so come on down,” Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O’Connor said.
The event brings 11 days of Bavarian fun.
“We have live music. Of course, some cold beer. A carnival on the Clemente Bridge. And of course, we’re bringing back the Ferris Wheel,” Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership President and CEO Jeremy Waldrup said.
Besides the 60-ft Ferris wheel on the Clemente Bridge, there will be Stein Holding Competitions and wiener dog Races in Market Square.
Plus, 14 restaurants are participating in the Taste of Oktoberfest.
“Not only will you find delicious food in the middle of the festival. There are restaurants throughout downtown that are going to give you a little bit of their take on German flair,” Waldrup said.
And new this year: Devil’s Wheel.
“This is the German-style mechanical pickle,” Waldrup said.
Anyone attending is encouraged to dress the part!
“It’s so great to see folks come out in their traditional attire and celebrate their heritage. Western Pa. has a significant number of people of German heritage; about 25% of us Pittsburghers are actually German. It’s fun to get out here and celebrate the season in a truly unique Pittsburgh way,” Waldrup said.
