The summit lasted for a day and a half. A handful of keynote speakers were the main focus of the event on Friday.

Some of the keynote speakers included:

  • Auja Diggs of Black, Young and Educated
  • Dr. Noble Maseru who is the director of Social Justice, Race and Faculty Engagement at the University of Pittsburgh
  • Amber Thompson, Founder of de-bias

The event switched gears on Saturday when attendants were able to particulate in a variety of workshops, and wellness sessions.

Panels and workshops focused on topics like police brutality, racism, sexism, homophobia and prison reform.

“People are ready for these conversations, and we tend to shy away from them quite a bit, and once we get into these spaces where we can talk and be free, and be non-judgemental and open and ready to learn, this is how we can move forward,” said Kevin Jabro, the programming lead for the Pittsburgh Racial Justice Center.

The event was held in person this year.

“Our community has grown and it has evolved and it has shaped so its actually really cool to see the team that we have be so many different kinds of people,” said Lead Organizer Daeja Baker.
