Police: Craigslist con artist arrested after stealing truck from Pittsburgh woman

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. — Police said they have caught a Craigslist con artist who scammed a Pittsburgh woman.

Police said Timothy Rossell was arrested in Washington City, Mo., after scamming Sarah Edwards and people in several other states. Police said they are unsure how many people may have fallen victim to Rossell.

Sarah Edwards said she was scammed out of $12,000 -- money she planned to use towards a vacation with her two kids.

“He didn’t steal from me. He stole from my kids,” Edwards said.

Edwards listed her truck in the online classifieds and tried to sell it to Rossell, who claimed to be a member of law enforcement, she said.

Edwards told Channel 11 reporter Timyka Artist that she entered a lease-to-own agreement with Rossell. He gave Edwards a fake name and a $700 down payment before leaving town with the truck, she told police.

“I’m happy they caught him, but I would just like my truck back,” said Edwards.

Police said they have not been able to track down the stolen truck.

According to police, Rossell will face charges of theft and impersonating a public servant. Police are waiting for him to be extradited back to Washington County.
