Police have connected two July shootings in Allegheny County - one that left a pregnant 18-year-old dead and another that left a teen injured.
According to the criminal complaint, police said the suspect in one of the shootings came into focus after he became a victim the next day.
Police said they found three videos on 21-year-old Calid Pettiford’s cell phone, where he allegedly admitted to the first shooting, and even re-enacted it.
On July 12, police said Pettiford fired a gun into a car that a 17-year-old was driving at the intersection of Kennedy Avenue and South Seventh Street in Duquesne. The teen was hit in his shoulder and crashed nearby.
On scene, police said they found over a dozen shell casings. Bullets also hit a house on Seventh Street, but nobody else was hurt in the shooting.
The next day, Pettiford was shot in the chest in Clairton.
In the same shooting, Ja’el Torres, 18, was also killed. Her family told Channel 11 that she was eight months pregnant, had just graduated from McKeesport High School, and planned to become an orthodontist.
It was the second shooting where police said they obtained a warrant and found the videos on Pettiford’s phone.
He’s charged with attempted homicide for the shooting on July 12 in Duquesne.
No one has been charged in the second shooting that killed Torres.
