LATROBE, Pa. — The 25-year-old girlfriend of a Latrobe man who shot a state police trooper during a 17-hour standoff last week allegedly provided him with two guns she stole from her roommate, police said.
Julian Faye Upholster of Latrobe also is accused of helping Scott M. Murphy, 46, in a pharmacy robbing that led to the standoff. She is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison on multiple charges.
The .380-caliber handgun and an AR-15 assault rifle found in Murphy's home after troopers fatally shot him Friday were stolen Wednesday by Upholster, according to court documents filed Monday.
Trooper Brian King, 44, is recovering from an eye injury caused by a shot Murphy fired during the standoff. Police said his bulletproof facial shield and helmet likely saved his life.
Latrobe police were investigating a pharmacy robbery Thursday afternoon and attempted to interview Murphy at his home at 7 p.m. Murphy barricaded himself in an upstairs room and refused to come out.
Family members told police Murphy had weapons. A state police Special Emergency Response Team was called in and negotiated with Murphy through the night. Police said Murphy made suicidal statements as they tried to coax him out.
State troopers stormed the home twice Friday - once at 11:41 a.m. and the second just after noon - and at least 24 shots were fired.
Murphy was found dead inside of multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators have not said who fired the fatal shot.
State police said Upholster stole the two guns from her roommate on Wednesday and took them to Murphy's home.
The following day, she allegedly drove Murphy to Precision Care Pharmacy where he stole several hundred OxyContin pills at gunpoint, using the .380-caliber handgun that Upholster allegedly stole, police said.
"Upholster further related that Murphy had been talking about robbing a pharmacy for the past week," Cpl. Michael McElfresh wrote in an affidavit of probable cause.
Upholster is charged in two separate cases filed Monday with illegal possession of a firearm, theft, firearms not to be carried without a license, robbery, and two counts each of receiving stolen property and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Upholster is in jail in lieu of two $77,500 bonds A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday. She does not have an attorney listed in online court records.
