Arrest made in McKees Rocks homicide

MCKEES ROCKS, Pa. — Police have made an arrest in the case of a McKees Rocks man who was found dead inside his apartment.

According to investigators, Isiah Dent, 61, was found beaten to death in the bathroom of his Locust Street apartment on Monday.

According to family members, Dent lived alone on the second floor of the building. His sister, Laverne Jackson, said she knew something was wrong when she didn't hear from him.

"He's resting now in peace. Whoever did it, I hope every day, every minute of the day, you suffer," said Jackson.

Police said they arrested Sean Overton, 19, about 11 a.m. Wednesday. He was taken into custody at his mother’s address in the Moon Crest housing complex without incident.

Overton, who has ties to the West End section of the city and McKees Rocks, is facing homicide charges. He is lodged in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting arraignment.

Family members said they’re unsure of why anyone would want to kill Dent, who was an activist in his community.

Investigators said there were no signs of forced entry at the apartment, so they believe Dent opened the door. Dent’s cause of death was blunt-force trauma to the head.

A vigil is planned to honor Dent at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Hayes Manor.

“It’s a sad, sad day for McKees Rocks,” McKees Rocks Mayor Jack Muhr said. “He was such a sweet person.”
