UNIONTOWN, Pa. — An 18-year-old Uniontown man was arrested early Tuesday morning after police said he tried to rob a South Union Township Walmart with an Airsoft BB gun.
According to police, authorities were called to the Walmart on Walmart Drive in Uniontown just after 2 a.m. Tuesday for the report of an attempted robbery.
Investigators said the suspect, later identified as Orlando Theo Coleman Jr., pointed what appeared to be a black handgun at the clerk and demanded money. They clerk informed Coleman that she couldn’t open the register unless a purchase was made.
Police said Coleman then exited the store and fled the scene on foot.
A short time later Coleman and his girlfriend, whose name hasn’t been released, were apprehended walking along Route 40, about half a mile from the store.
The weapon was recovered and determined to be an Airsoft BB type of gun, police said.
Coleman is charged with simple assault and criminal attempt to commit an armed robbery.
