PITTSBURGH — A teenager was in critical condition Tuesday after he either jumped or fell from a moving vehicle in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood.
According to Pittsburgh police, the 15-year-old boy was in respiratory distress when paramedics arrived to the scene on Race Street shortly before midnight.

Pittsburgh Police officers were on the scene as well, and would play a key role in getting the boy to the hospital.
“I turned to them and said, ‘Hey, somebody needs to drive this ambulance,’” Pittsburgh Police Commander Jason Lando said. “That allowed the paramedics to stay in the back and treat the victim.”
Police said the boy was riding on the trunk of a car as it drove along up and down the street. After falling or jumping from the car, the boy suffered a head injury.
He stopped breathing in the ambulance, and a police officer drove it to the hospital so both paramedics could remain in the back with the victim.
The driver of the car remained at the scene and spoke with investigators. Police don’t plan to charge the river at this time.
