CASTLE SHANNON, Pa. — Castle Shannon residents are on high alert after a recent rash of home burglaries in the area.
Police said at least three homes have been burglarized recently, two while people were sleeping inside.
Authorities said the burglars appear to be getting into the homes through unlocked windows.
Police Chief Ken Truver said the most recent burglary happened on Sixth Street when the burglar crawled through an open kitchen window, stole money from a purse and left through a side door.
“The most concerning thing about that is if the resident was to confront the actor while the crime is taking place, nothing good can come of that. It’s a little bit frightening,” Truver said.
Castle Shannon resident William DeAngelis said he wasn’t aware of the crimes when he recently purchased new windows for his house.
“That’s crazy. I have never heard of anything like that happening around here. It’s really weird,” DeAngelis said.
Truver said police are warning residents to be more cautious and to alert authorities of any suspicious activity.
“Lock your doors and windows when you leave the house to prevent daylight burglaries,” Truver said. “Even more important, when you go to bed, lock your doors and windows.”
Anyone with information on the burglaries is asked to contact police.
