T shut down for several hours after cable falls onto tracks

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Port Authority stopped all rail cars for several hours after a cable above the tracks caught fire and fell onto the tracks.

Duquesne Light says that a cable fell onto the T car tracks at the intersection of Library and McNeilly roads and halted transportation for several hours. Flames were seen burning above the tracks.

Trolley riders were informed that the rail cars would be stopped via social media.

“We got on the trolley this morning about ten minutes late coming in and really just found out on the way that everything was closing down on us,” said passenger David Brown.

Brown and others on his trolley were instructed to take shuttles that were running as a result of the incident.

“When you leave work today you have to wonder, ‘Do I have to take a shuttle?’ Where do I have to pick a shuttle up in Downtown Pittsburgh to get to where I need to be to get back out to Bethel? It’s going to be confusing,” said Brown.

Duquesne Light expects all repairs to be complete by 6 p.m. The cause of the incident has not been released at this time.
