VALENCIA, Pa. — A program, called Hunters Sharing the Harvest, makes it possible for deer meat to be donated to those who are less fortunate.
T.A. Giger Deer Processing, in Valencia, is one of two processing businesses in Butler County that participates in the program.

"It's a great program," said Tim Giger, of T.A. Giger Deer Processing. "We take the deer meat, put in the packages and give it to local food banks for people who aren't as fortunate as some."
Giger said some people like to hunt but don't want the deer meat. So they donate it.
Last year, Pennsylvania hunters donated 2,400 deer, bringing in almost 100,000 pounds of meat for area food banks.
