PWSA lifts boil water advisory for East End neighborhoods

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority has lifted the boil water advisory issued March 24 for East End neighborhoods.

All customers impacted by the advisory can resume normal use of water, according to the PWSA. They include portions of Central Lawrenceville, East Liberty, Garfield, Highland Park, Morningside, Stanton Heights and Upper Lawrenceville.

About 4,400 customers lost access to their water after a 20-inch water main break in Highland Park.

The authority completed two rounds of water testing that did not show any evidence of microbial contamination, according to a news release, and the water is safe to drink.

Customers are no longer advised to boil tap water before consumption.

The authority recommends that customers using their water for the first time since Friday run their taps for at least one minute before using it for cooking or drinking. This helps remove stagnant water from plumbing and brings in fresh water from water mains.
