NATRONA HEIGHTS, Pa. — A controversial prize to benefit a post-prom party at Highlands High School has been changed from a gift card to a beer distributor to a VISA gift card.
Highlands Superintendent Michael Bjalobok told Channel 11's news exchange partners at TribLIVE that the issue was brought to the district's attention after an irate person claiming to be a parent called and complained about the raffle.

District officials said the parents group that organizes the post-prom party did not contact the district and get the raffle prize approved. It is policy to seek approval for anything that is used for the benefit of the students.
The raffle was not intended for students to win, the district said. They also added that they do not condone underage drinking.
The original gift card was worth $500 at Allegheny beverage, a beer distributor in Harrison.
Robin Bergstrom, the owner of Allegheny Beverage, told TribLIVE that the post-prom fundraiser was held last year with a gift card to her business as the prize.
Bergstrom said holding a gift card to her business does not make anyone an exception to state laws on underage drinking.
