NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Channel 11's news partners at TribLIVE confirmed Wednesday that the Pittsburgh Pirates had traded Neil Walker to the New York Mets for left-handed pitcher Jon Niese.

Walker, 30, was projected to make $10 million via arbitration in 2016 and would have been a free agent after the season, according to TribLIVE. The Pirates already had told Walker that he does not figure into their long-term plans and had been shopping him the past month.

According to TribLIVE Pirates beat writer Rob Biertempfel, Niese will make $9 million in 2016. His deal includes team options of $9 million in 2017 and $10 million in 2018.
