A school bus driver and monitor have been fired after a 7-year-old boy with special needs was accidentally left on the bus for several hours after the driver finished rounds in a western Pennsylvania school district.
The Seneca Valley School District is not identifying the driver or monitor, who were both employed by AJ Myers & Son, which contracts to offer school bus service in the district. The contractor was involved in the firing, too.
A district spokeswoman says protocols to ensure children aren't left behind weren't followed, which is why the boy remained on the bus Tuesday morning.
The boy's teacher texted his mother when he didn't arrive for school, which is why the boy was found on the bus hours later, cold and crying.
