McKEESPORT, Pa. — Police have arrested a man accused of firing shots in a local park during a graduation party Tuesday night.
According to authorities, a uniformed officer working security at the party at Renzie Park requested assistance when an altercation arose between a group of people.
Responding officers were working to break up the fight when several shots were fired into an occupied vehicle by a man who then ran from the area, police said. The occupants of the vehicle also left the area after exiting the vehicle, police said.
The man accused of firing the shots, Brandon Murphy, 21, was later found trying to hide from police by lying in an area of grass near Eden Park Boulevard, officials said.
During their search of the area, police recovered a handgun believed to have been used by Murphy.
Shortly after Murphy’s arrest, police said a man showed up at UPMC McKeesport Hospital with a gunshot wound to his thumb. The man, 21, who has not been identified, told police he had been injured while standing next to the vehicle that was shot at.
Murphy is facing charges that include reckless endangerment and aggravated assault.
