South Fayette Township road closed indefinitely due to deteriorating bridge

SOUTH FAYETTE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — “One day I looked out the window, and they were setting up barriers,” Bob Mariani told Channel 11.

Mariani was surprised, just like the rest of the South Fayette community, to find out the portion of Miller’s Run Road near the old Lion’s Den is closed down indefinitely.

PennDOT says the road runs over Dolphin Run, and a recent inspection found that the bridge is deteriorating, and requires an immediate closure.

“Since you can stand on the bridge and touch my building, it looks like it’s going to go,” Mariani said.

Mariani is concerned that his home and the apartments he owns will be torn down as crews make repairs to Miller’s Run.

“My stomach hurts all the time thinking about it. Because, where am I going to go? Am I going to get enough money to buy another home? Am I going to get enough money to live on it?” He said.\

Since the road is closed, an easy detour is set up for drivers.

Channel 11 reached out to PennDOT for specifics on the road’s condition, and a spokesperson told us that the bridge’s steel beams are deteriorating.

Mariani says he wants answers on if he will lose his house.

“[I wish] At least have somebody would call me and talk to me, that would be nice. It would maybe get this pain out of my stomach from worrying all the time,” he said.
