Steelers fans travel to Pittsburgh to celebrate 50th anniversary of ‘Immaculate Reception’

PITTSBURGH — Steelers fans from near and far gathered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the “Immaculate Reception.”

Originally the Steelers had planned to gather right in front of this memorial of Franco Harris but due to the frigid cold they moved fans into a covered area.

Despite the frigid temperatures fans traveled hundreds of miles from Florida, South Dakota, even Hawaii to celebrate the anniversary.

At exactly 3:41 p.m., the Steelers will rebroadcast the play that has been deemed one of the greatest moments in NFL history.

One fan said he was at that game 50 years ago with his dad and almost left before the play — but they didn’t — he says it was the greatest NFL moment he has ever witnessed.

“We’re not leaving until it’s over we paid good money for this, $11.14” he recalled. “We are staying the end we put all this time in and I am glad we stayed saw the greatest play I was the end zone of where Franco ran into his Italian army it was just an incredible event.”

Many fans Channel 11 spoke with say they plan to go to the game Saturday, and say they wouldn’t have been anywhere else than here on this special day.
