PITTSBURGH — A shooting outside of downtown Pittsburgh’s Capital Grille was caught on surveillance tape last April and now prosecutors are using the video during the trial against the alleged gunman.
The shooting happened near the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Smithfield Street during the daytime hours of April 5. The shooting caused chaos and panic in the busy area.
“They pulled out their guns and shot at each other right in the street in broad daylight. People were running,” a witness said.
Channel 11’s Alan Jennings reported that the shooting happened when two known enemies met on the sidewalk.
Police said 22-year-old Hassan Howze is seen scuffling with and then shooting Jamel Terry.
Howze and another man, Antonio Peterson, were both arrested in connection with the shooting. Peterson is accused of being an accomplice.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Kevin Faulds was credited with preventing pedestrians from being hit by gunfire.
“He should certainly be commended for his efforts,” Lt. Kevin Kraus said.
The trial began Wednesday against Howze and Peterson.
