SCOTT TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Police in Scott Township are looking for the man who stole over $5,000 worth of tungsten carbide tiles from a business in the Carnegie Industrial Park.
Authorities said four boxes of 1½-inch tiles were stolen from Mechanical and Ceramic Solutions on May 5.
Scott Township police called the theft unusual because of the items stolen. Each piece of steel tile is half the size of a Post-It note, yet worth $3.
"The dimensions are 1 ½ inch by 1 inch by an 1/8-inch thick," Scott Township Police Sgt. Jeff Skees said.
Officials said the theft was caught on surveillance video. The footage also shows the thief leaving the property in a silver Chrysler Pacifica, police said.
"He was only there for about half an hour," Skees said. "He could be seen exiting the building with a 5-gallon bucket, and he's struggling to carry it."
Skees said the thief was wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap. He also said the man clearly had some kind of arm injury.
"What is so distinct about this individual is he appears to have some type of injury, like a rotator cuff in his arm is held out in an odd manner," Skees said.
Officials said this is the second incident of this kind, with the first incident occurring last Memorial Day weekend, but there was no footage that time.
Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to contact police.
