NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Police said two people were arrested Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy Saturday in a Lawrence County park.
Authorities said the teen’s body was found by a man walking his dog near Gaston Park in New Castle on Saturday.
Officials identified the victim as Marcus McCauley. He was shot in the head.
“I just feel so, so bad. You don’t know how bad it hurts me,” Kiley Searcy, a friend of McCauley, said. “He was a wonderful kid. He got along with people.”
Searcy said she was one of the last people to see McCauley alive. She was with him Friday night when he left to hang out with friends.
“I just started bawling. I was crying and crying,” Searcy said when asked about finding out about McCauley’s death. “It’s unbelievable that something that bad would happen to him. It hurts my heart.”
Police have not released the two suspects' names who are in police custody, but said they will be charged with homicide.
“Whoever did this, I hope the law handles it, and I hope it gets done the right way because all of this gun violence out here doesn’t make sense,” Searcy said.
Neighbors said McCauley’s family went to Arizona for his funeral. He is from that area but was living in New Castle with his father.
