PITTSBURGH,None — A Greenfield teenager is recovering after a sled ride ended with a trip to the emergency room on Saturday.
Officials said Jimmy Moltz, 14, was with two friends while sled riding on a hillside near Coleman Street when he crashed into a tree and broke his leg.
Moltz screamed for his friends to call 911 because he was trapped on a hillside close to a 350-foot drop.
Moltz's friend, Nick Rush, immediately called 911 on his cellphone and EMS crews showed up at the hillside.
"Me and our friend Nick were already at the bottom of the hill," Khaleb Schindler said. "He said that his leg was hurting, and we asked him if he thought he was alright. He said he thought he broke it."
Authorities said they made the decision to lower the victim in a basket down the hillside to rescue crews on Saline Street because of potentially dangerous terrain.
"We have paramedics on scene that are capable of doing the rope work and getting the patient treatment," Pittsburg EMS Jeff Vesci said. "The team decided that going up was the wrong way to go and going down was the right way to go."
Moltz was taken to Children's Hospital and is expected to recover.
