Detectives said the boy’s mother left him mowing the grass with his toy mower while she ran inside to get a drink. When she returned, the boy was in the pool.
Police told Channel 11's Cara Sapida that the child was unresponsive and his mother performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
Paramedics were able to get a pulse on the toddler and flew him to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where he was pronounced dead at 1:05 p.m. Sunday.
The toddler is still on life-support, and the family is praying for a miracle.
A couple hundred people attended a vigil was held at the family’s Canonsburg home Tuesday night.
Neighbors told Sapida the family moved in two weeks ago.
“Just seeing the community to come together like this for people we didn't even know who just moved in, it really is moving, it is amazing,” said Dana Sabatucci, neighbor.
Canonsburg police and state police are investigating, but said it looks like a tragic accident.
