Inbound Fort Pitt Tunnel closure canceled for third time due to weather

PITTSBURGH — For a third time in recent weeks, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has canceled a planned weekend closure of the inbound lanes of the Fort Pitt Tunnel.

Crews were expected to work on the removal of the tunnel's ceiling during the closure, which was scheduled to begin Friday night and last until Monday morning.

The cancellation of this weekend's work is due to "anticipated inclement winter weather," according to PennDOT.

Two previously scheduled closures, part of a $14 million tunnel rehabilitation project, were also canceled due to inclement weather.
