Trisha Pittman gets a behind-the-scenes look at Sarris Candies

CANONSBURG, Pa. — We’re right in the middle of the busiest time of the year at Sarris Candies in Canonsburg.

Channel 11's Trisha Pittman visited the famous business Friday and got a behind-the-scenes look at how it all works.

Employees are busy filling last-minute orders while customers are filling baskets.

“Surprisingly, you do see a lot of people come in because they wait until the last minute. Because they don’t want to eat the candy beforehand, they wait,” President Bill Sarris said.

The family-owned business has 250 employees on its staff as Easter draws near.

“A high-heeled shoe with an assortment of chocolates in it,” retail operations manager Norman Candelore said about one of the many variations they have available.

Pittman said her favorite was chocolate that looked exactly like the Stanley Cup.

The store will be open late this weekend, and even early-morning hours on Sunday.

“Our peanut butter melt-aways are the No. 1 egg, and, of course, people always want pretzels,” Sarris said.

Sarris said 92 percent of customers look for milk chocolate, 6 percent for dark chocolate and 2 percent white chocolate.
