UPMC drops masking mandate

UPMC - WPXI UPMC employees announce plan to go on strike if demands aren’t met

PITTSBURGH — Beginning today, universal masking is no longer required at most UPMC facilities and locations, according to a UPMC spokesperson.

Masking continues to be required in specific care areas where patients are particularly vulnerable to infection.

COVID-19 protections, including voluntary masking and standard and transmission-based precautions, remain in effect.

Allegheny Health Network discontinued its masking requirement on April 20.

UPMC’s masking policy has been in place since the early days of the pandemic in early 2020. It is the latest health system to eliminate the requirement as the federal health emergency expires.
