Vacant house fire in New Castle threatens nearby homes

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Firefighters battled a massive blaze at a vacant home early Monday morning in New Castle.

Officials said the two-story wooden structure on Galbreath Street was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived just after 12:30 a.m.

The flames were so intense that crews directed their hoses at nearby homes to prevent the flames and sparks from setting them on fire as well.

The fire marshal is investigating and has yet to determine the cause of the blaze.
