WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. — A jury found one of the people suspected in connection with the murder of an elderly Washington County woman guilty of conspiracy Friday night.
The verdict for Diane McClelland, 50, follows an investigation into the July 2011 stabbing death of McClelland’s neighbor, Evelyn Stepko, 92, in the basement of her Coal Center home.
McClelland was charged with helping her husband, David Allen McClelland, 57, plan, execute, rob and murder Stepko.
According to police, Stepko lived in fear of the McClelland family, who had stolen more than $200 thousand from the elderly woman over the years.
Throughout McClelland’s trial, the jury heard from 30 witnesses and viewed more than 170 pieces of evidence, including bank statements and casino receipts.
McClelland could face up to 74 years in prison.
Her stepson, David James McClelland, 37, goes on trial for his alleged involvement in the crime later this year.
Her husband is serving life in prison after pleading guilty to murder charges.
