Grant money approved for Ligonier Beach

LIGONIER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Ligonier Township will receive a state grant of $42,500 to help pay for renovations at Ligonier Beach.

Township officials are seeking at least $135,000 in grants to cover about half the cost of proposed improvements to the former swimming pool and restaurant along Route 30.

“It’s nice that we got this funding, but it wasn’t the total amount we wanted,” Terry Carcella, township manager, told our partners at triblive.com.

A decision on exactly what improvements will be made to the property, purchased last year by the township, has yet to be made.

In coming weeks, the township supervisors are expected to receive a recommendation from a committee formed to study redevelopment options.

After more than 90 years in operation, Ligonier Beach did not open for the 2018 season after flooding caused damage to the pool pumps and restaurant furnace.
