Westmoreland County 911 received a number of calls Tuesday night from people reporting a natural gas odor.
It turns out, too much mercaptan — a foul-smelling compound put in natural gas to give it the “rotten-egg” smell — was added, causing alarm to people in Delmont, Murrysville and Penn Township, Channel 11 news partner the Tribune-Review reports.
Firefighters and Peoples Natural Gas made sure there was no leak and the Murrysville police department issued an alert letting people know the real cause and that the lines were being flushed, the Trib reports.
